CHECK IN for Constable Pynt

you may touch him...

Today, on 11th of April, we went by helicopter from Constable Pynt ti Scoresbysund. We met Ole, the guy who was assigned last year to build the dogsled. Hard to believe - but the dogsled was finished and the price was the fixed one! Only the price for the dogs changed a bit - it was the triple. What did we learn about arrangements, made last year? Peter was really pissed, but it didn't change anything, and the people here know it.

Finally we started. After some hours with the plane bright sun welcomed us in Constable Pynt. During the flight, we requested the pilot to make a detour so that we could see the Stewart - Glacier from above - no problem with Island Air - impressing, but a lot of crevasses. We saw only one possible passage in the upper region. But it's also possible that we'll get some problems with the dogsled - that would mean, to carry the load ourselves - some hundreds of kilograms of equipment - - no comment.

Cap Brewster is the hook we have to get around. --- but, some hunters told us, that the ice in the sound is melting, for that we may have to choose another way as planned - we will see.

In Constable Pynt we met a Sirius Patrol - a relikt of world war 2 to do german wireless operators and secrets agents in. They are controlling the whole east- and northcoast of Greenland from November until middle of June. All teams, there are 6, have to be back on their base on 15th of June. During the summer they are patroling with ships. During the winter they are whole the time outdoors. They don't touch the "cities" and are provided in certain camps. The patrol has police-authority. That means that they can ask you for your drivers license in between nowhere. :-) They are really doing a hard job. On their way, one of the she-dogs casted it's young, therefore they stopped in Constable Pynt. Next morning they continued their route - the cubs in a red box on the sled, the mother yoked again - in a position where a lot of power is needed, as Ralf explained to me.
The patrols equipment is still the same as 50 years ago - two men, 11 dogs and white wooden skies. The dogs are really powerful, with a weight of 50 Kg. One of the men regretted, that because of their power they are not very fast.

Our expedition now is registered. Ralf and I were at the police station - everything's o.k. Tomorrow we have to yoke the dogs and then the first test, back to Constable Pynt, where we will load up the dogsled and then start our tour. Not to forget - our dogs are really smoochy. I think, if I can send this text and the pictures via the slow satellite connection to you, everything will start well tommorrow.
Greetings, Thomas.
